Biography

After completing undergraduate and medical training at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Burke returned to Columbia, accepting a faculty position in the Gynecologic Oncology Division, leaving the faculty of the University of Michigan, School of Medicine, where he had completed a fellowship in 2000. He has won numerous teaching awards both at University of Michigan and at Columbia. Dr. Burke’s clinical interests include novel chemotherapeutic combinations and chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer, and minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery for gynecologic malignancies. He currently trains both gynecologists and gynecologic oncologists around the country in robotic surgical techniques. At the University of Michigan, he and his colleagues published some of the first reports describing use of the DaVinci® Surgical System to complete laparoscopic myomectomies and gynecologic cancer stagings. Other research interests include Topotecan consolidation therapy in women with stage III or IV ovarian or primary peritoneal cancer Dr. Burke participates in national professional societies and conferences. He has earned recognition for recent national video presentations demonstrating laparoscopic and robotic procedures. He was also received a Basic Science Award for a recent paper on signal pathways in human ovarian cancer cells. Dr. Burke is currently based out of the Columbia-affiliated Valley Hospital.
