Jason D. Wright, MD, chief of the division of gynecologic oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, has been named the incoming editor in chief of Obstetrics & Gynecology (the Green Journal), the official journal of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Wright will begin serving as editor in chief elect in August 2021 and will assume the position of editor in chief in January 2022.

A national leader in gynecologic oncology, Dr. Wright has advanced the field of obstetrics and gynecology with seminal articles in the literature. With nearly 500 publications, his outcomes research has highlighted disparities in access and care delivery in our field. Throughout his career, Dr. Wright has received many awards for his impact on clinical care, research, and education and has served on seven editorial boards and as a reviewer for more than two dozen medical journals.

Dr. Wright is dedicated to addressing major issues in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, including through his research focusing on health services and patient-centered outcomes. His areas of focus include improving quality of care and reducing inequities in both access to care and patient outcomes.

“I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to work with the editorial board at the Green Journal to chart a course forward for the preeminent journal of our specialty,” said Dr. Wright. “The practice of medicine requires diligent monitoring of the latest in medical evidence, a critical eye toward how patient care is changing, an examination of unresolved issues in day-to-day practice, and a focus on patient-centered care to achieve a more equitable health care system. In order to achieve excellence, we will need to be at the forefront in addressing issues related to racism and inequities in health care and publishing. My goal is to bring the most innovative and practice-changing research in women’s health to the Green Journal while ensuring that our journal publishes clinical content that’s useful for our readers’ day-to-day clinical practices.”

Dr. Wright is also the vice chair of academic affairs in the department of obstetrics and gynecology and Sol Goldman associate professor of gynecologic oncology at Columbia. He has been a long time mentor for faculty and trainees in the department, supporting their work towards publication and funding and serving as a catalyst for multiple residents entering the field of gynecologic oncology. Dr. Wright is beloved by his patients and always ensures that they are seen quickly, especially following a difficult diagnosis.

“Dr. Wright's selection for this role is a testament to his dedication to academic medicine and to advancing women's health,” said Mary D’Alton, MD, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYP/CUIMC. “The Green Journal is considered one of the most prestigious women's health journals in the world and to have Dr. Wright at the helm will be an enormous source of pride for our department.
