Dr. Wright is the Chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and the Levine Family Assistant Professor of Women’s Health and Florence Irving Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Wright is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Wright received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Missouri and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Washington University in St. Louis. He is board certified in gynecologic oncology as well as obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Wright lectures nationally and internationally and has published more than 170 scientific manuscripts as well as a number of textbooks and chapters.
Dr. Wright’s NIH-funded research program has pioneered the use of comparative effectiveness research methodology to improve the treatment of women’s cancers and benign gynecologic disease. His team has undertaken large, population-based studies to examine the use of novel drugs and technologies for cancer patients, surgical quality, fertility preservation, and the management of complications in cancer patients. This work has had an important impact on public health policy and has been widely recognized.
Dr. Wright is an internationally recognized expert in the medical and surgical management of gynecologic cancer patients. He cares for women with gynecologic tumors as well as patients with complex gynecologic disorders. Dr. Wright performs advanced minimally invasive surgery and has a special interest in the treatment of women with advanced cancer, hereditary cancer syndromes and fertility preservation in young women. Dr. Wright leads the precision medicine initiative within the Division to bring personalized treatment strategies to gynecologic cancer patients based on the specific genetic abnormalities within their cancers.
