Columbia Ob/Gyn welcomes new faculty members in 4 divisions
This fall, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center proudly welcomes five new full-time faculty members in four different divisions. Our new faculty members include specialists who are leaders in their respective fields and experienced multidisciplinary collaborators who will help serve the department’s goal of providing convenient, coordinated care to all patients.
Meet our new faculty members:
General Obstetrics & Gynecology (Lawrence Hospital)
Karimah Smith, MD
Karimah Smith, MD is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association, and the International Health Care Volunteers.
Dr. Smith completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where she served as Administrative Chief Resident. She achieved her Doctor of Medicine degree at Temple University Medical School and her Bachelor of Science degree with Honors from the University of Maryland.
Fady Khoury Collado, MD
Fady Khoury Collado, MD is a gynecologic oncologist specializing in surgeries for gynecologic cancers, including cancers of the ovary, uterus, cervix, vulva and vagina. He also specializes in the surgical management of patients with abnormal placentation in collaboration with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division.
Dr. Khoury Collado completed his training in gynecologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. After completing his fellowship, he joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn where he became the Director of Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. In addition to the surgical management of gynecologic malignancies, Dr. Khoury Collado has a special interest in the surgical management of patients with abnormal placentation. He has several years of experience in the surgical management of patients with placenta accreta, increta and percreta. He collaborates with the other members of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in order to provide the most comprehensive management for pregnant patients facing this life threatening condition.
Dr. Khoury Collado is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Gynecologic Oncology and is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a full member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society.

Gynecologic Specialty Surgery
Douglas N. Brown, MD
Douglas Brown, MD was born and raised in New York where his parents still live and his roots run deep. Dr. Brown completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, and went on to complete a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic, Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery at the St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, in New York, NY. From 2010-2013, Dr. Brown served as the Director of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. After serving 12 years in the United States Army and 12 months in Afghanistan as the Battalion Surgeon for the 1-508th Paratrooper Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne, Dr. Brown relocated to Boston, Harvard Medical School, and Massachusetts General Hospital where he served as the Director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery from 2013-2018. In July 2018, Dr. Brown made the heartfelt decision to return home to New York, along with his wife and two young children, bringing his expertise in minimally invasive surgery to the Gynecologic Specialty Surgery Division of Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Brown has an avid interest in advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, surgical treatment of endometriosis, fertility sparing myomectomies (fibroid removal), surgical simulation, and robotic surgery.

Hye-Chun Hur, MD
Hye-Chun Hur, MD is a minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon. She joins Columbia as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition to providing routine gynecologic care, Dr. Hur specializes in gynecologic endoscopy, including robotic surgery, advanced laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and in the treatment of women with chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding and vulvar pain. Dr. Hur favors a minimally invasive approach to the care of her patients, as this approach leads to faster recovery, less pain, shorter length of hospital stay, improved cosmesis, and greater patient satisfaction.

Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility
Paula Brady, MD
Paula Brady, MD earned her medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and went on to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was elected to lead the residency’s educational activities in her chief year. She then completed her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Brady has published extensively on assisted reproduction and early pregnancy, and has presented her findings at national and international conferences. While still a fellow, she authored a textbook, “Handbook of Consult and Inpatient Gynecology” (Springer, 2016). Prior to medical training, she earned a BA in English from Yale University and a Master of Fine Arts in poetry from Boston University, and she has developed successful grant-funded programs in the arts and humanities for medical trainees.
Dr. Brady is deeply committed to personalized fertility assessment and treatment for her patients, and has special interest in ovarian reserve testing, diminished ovarian reserve, fertility preservation, ovulatory disorders, IVF and repeated IVF failures.
