Vanessa Babineau, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Psychiatry at Columbia University. She serves as a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Women's Mental Health @Ob/Gyn, a mental health service embedded within Columbia's Obstetrics & Gynecology practices. Dr. Babineau specializes in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, particularly during pregnancy and postpartum, with trauma-informed care.

Dr. Babineau is a researcher funded by the NIH with a 'K99-R00' Career Development award; she is supervised by Dr. Catherine Monk in the Perinatal Pathways Lab. Dr. Babineau's research brings together intergenerational trauma and transmission of risk for psychopathology in the context of women’s mental health during pregnancy (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder) and history of childhood maltreatment; inequities in mental healthcare based on race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background; newborn brain development; mother-infant attachment; and development of early childhood psychopathology.
